The Environment of Supermassive Black Holes in Nearby Galaxies

Sponsored in part by NASA

The best galaxies are the nearby ones because they are the largest and brightest. I have carefully studied the following non-reverberating active galactic nuclei (AGN); M81, NGC 3998 and NGC 4203, as well as the following reverberating AGN; NGC 4051, NGC 3516 and NGC 3227. The observations were obtained primarily with the Hubble Space Telescope. The results of these observations, and others, are published in the Astrophysical Journal, a publishing partnership of the American Astronomical Society and the Institute of Physics, as well as the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
